Windows DreamScene is a utility that allows an animation to be used as a desktop background. It is one of the components of Windows Ultimate Extras, meaning it is available only on Windows Vista Ultimate.
Description
When downloaded, DreamScene includes a small set of animated backgrounds to use. Additional sets of animated backgrounds are available to download from Windows Ultimate Extras as well. On top of this, any file of the MPEG or WMV format can be set as the desktop background.[1]
DreamScene saves power by pausing the video background when a window is maximized or in full screen mode. The background can also be paused manually through the desktop's right-click menu.
DreamScene animated backgrounds require a computer compatible with Windows Aero. However, the DreamScene feature adds new positions for static picture backgrounds, which are available for all Windows Vista Ultimate computers.
Notes
- Windows DreamScene can use AVI files as backgrounds if their file extension is altered to a recognized extension.
- Windows DreamScene can be enabled on all versions of Windows Vista and 7 using third-party tools.[2]
