Microsoft Authenticator (formerly Azure Authenticator) is an app developed by Microsoft for two-factor authentication of a user's identity while logging into a Microsoft Account.[1]
The app supports standard numeric-code 2FA using TOTP. It also supports numeric-code and notification-based passwordless sign-in for Microsoft accounts and passkeys for Microsoft Entra ID accounts (commonly known as work or school accounts). Users can back up their credentials to the cloud, though this feature is not available for Entra ID accounts.
