The Recycle Bin is the feature of Microsoft Windows that is used to store and delete unwanted files.

History

The Recycle Bin was first introduced as a function of Windows Explorer in Windows 95. It was ever since the same.

Usage

• A user can drag a file to be deleted in the Recycle Bin, or right-click on the item and select Delete from the pop-up menu.
• The Recycle Bin behaves like a folder, not a running application.
• The file is not immediately deleted, so that if the user changes their mind, the file can be retrieved from the Recycle Bin.
• The file is deleted permanently when the Recycle Bin is emptied, though it is possible for it to be recovered through File History, or 3rd-party utilities under limited circumstances.
• If items in the Recycle Bin exceed 5% of the drive's available space, it will begin purging the files in the order that they were placed in there.
