Microsoft Movies & TV (US only),[1][2] or Microsoft Films & TV (Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand),[3][4] previously Xbox Video and Zune Video, was a digital video storefront service developed by Microsoft that offered full HD movies and TV shows available for rental or purchase from the Microsoft Store. Personal digital collections could be watched and managed within the app.[5] The service was available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, Windows 8 and later, and Windows Phone 8 and later.[6]

The service was discontinued on July 18, 2025, and was superseded by Media Player on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

The original video store provided by Xbox Live Marketplace was replaced by the Zune Marketplace on September 15, 2009.

At E3 2009, Microsoft announced its 1080p streaming video service, which allows users to stream over an Internet connection. This technology is a key part of Xbox Video for its streaming service.

On October 16, 2012, the service was renamed "Microsoft Movies & TV".

With the launch of Windows 10, Xbox Video was rebranded under the name Movies & TV, with the storefront for the content merged into Microsoft Store as a whole as part of Microsoft's "universal apps" initiative.[citation needed] However, the Xbox Video branding reamined active on all platforms and the official website.

On September 17, 2015, with a system update for the Xbox 360, the name of the app changed to reflect the new branding.[citation needed] The Xbox One app had also changed in a previous update.

After being previously linked with Movies Anywhere in the past, Microsoft Movies & TV announced that they would be rejoining the service on August 6, 2018.[citation needed]

On August 17, 2023, Microsoft announced that the Microsoft Movies & TV app on Xbox 360 will no longer function as of July 29, 2024.[7]

On July 18, 2025, Microsoft abruptly discontinued purchasing and renting on the platform, but stated that purchased content would still be accessible via the Movies & TV app.[8]
