Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 is an operating system developed by Microsoft as part of the Window IoT series, released on December 9, 2008. It is based on Windows XP Service Pack 3. It is the last operating system derived from Windows XP that received official support from Microsoft.
Mainstream support for Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 ended on April 8, 2014. Extended support ended on April 9, 2019.

Windows XP's extended support
Before Windows XP end of support in 2014, some Windows XP users had reported that editing the Registry on their operating system could trick Windows Update into accepting updates targeting POSReady 2009.
